Printing receipts: Bluetooth thermal printers and PDF bills
A clean receipt makes a small shop look professional and settles most price disputes. Here is how to set up printing and what to do when it misbehaves.
Choose the right paper size
Most pocket thermal printers use 58 mm paper and counter printers use 80 mm. Pick the size that matches your printer, otherwise the text will be cut off or too small.
Connect over Bluetooth
Turn the printer on and pair it with your phone in the phone's Bluetooth settings. Then print from ShopMaz using Chrome on Android. Bluetooth printing is not available in every browser or on every phone.
Put your shop on the bill
Add your shop name, phone number and logo in your profile and printer settings. The receipt shows them at the top, the items and total in the middle and a friendly footer at the bottom.
No printer? Use PDF or WhatsApp
Any browser can save the bill as a PDF, and you can share it on WhatsApp. For customers who do not need paper this is cheaper and just as useful as proof of purchase.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing prints: check the printer is on, charged, paired and has paper.
- Text is cut off: change the paper size to match the printer.
- Cannot find the printer: unpair and pair again, and close other apps that may be using it.
- Still stuck: share the PDF receipt and try again later.
- After saving a sale use the print or share option on the receipt.
- Receipt options are in the printer and invoice settings under Settings.
Common questions
Which printer should I buy?
Any common 58 mm or 80 mm ESC/POS Bluetooth thermal printer usually works. Buy one that your own phone can pair with, and test a sample receipt before you buy in bulk.
Do I need special paper?
Yes. Thermal printers use thermal paper rolls. They are cheap and sold at most stationery shops.
